Since 2013, Kesha has been in legal dispute with her former producer Dr. Luke, in which she accuses him of physical, sexual and emotional abuse and employment discrimination against her. Dr Luke had been Kesha’s producer since the age of 17 and according to the singer had been drugging and sexually assaulting her. In 2014, Kesha checked into a rehab facility for eating disorder treatment. Kesha’s mother Pebe Sebert asserts that Dr. Luke was partly the cause of Kesha’s eating disorder.
While in rehab, Kesha wrote 14 new songs and finally returned to music in 2017 with the release of her third studio album, Rainbow, and its lead single “Praying“, both of which were nominated for Grammy Awards. “Praying” reveals the torment that Kesha faced for the 3 years of law suit against Dr Luke but she says “I do think, love is something that as humans we all have, and I hope heals us. I really believe that love and empathy, can heal us.”
