Sometimes, we may notice that our friends are not so good but we don’t know how to approach them about it. Billie Eilish shared some gems about talking about mental health problems in Seize the Awkward. She says: “It doesn’t make you weak to ask for help, to ask a friend to go with you to the therapist, you should be able to ask anyone for help. Everyone has to help someone if they need it”
“Starting that conversation, you don’t need to make it serious straight away”. She says, just ask: “How are you feeling? Are you Ok?”. Your friend would most likely reply ‘I’m good’. Then say, “Really?, are you really good?”
Eilish adds that “Sometimes you don’t even need to say anything to someone for them to know they are understood.” She says that just being there and giving them a hug can do wonders for that person. The most important thing about talking to your friend about mental health is that you should keep your ears open and listen.
Eilish added that “There have been certain people that have texted me right when I needed to be texted, saying they loved me and that they were thinking about me. And it really means a lot”.
