23 may seem all grown up, but the truth is many of us are still trying to find ourselves and our place in the world.
We can relate to how Shawn Mendes feels and what he’s going through. He recently shared on his Instagram:
“Sometimes I ask myself what it is that I should be doing with my life and what I always hear in return is ‘tell the truth’. I feel like it’s a hard thing to do.”
“I’m afraid that if people know and see the truth they might think less of me. They might become bored of me. So in those moments of feeling low I either put on a show or hide.”
“The truth is I am either flying or drowning. Maybe that’s just what it is to be in your 20’s.”
“The truth is I really wanna show up in the world as 100% true honest unique self and not care what anyone thinks… sometimes I really don’t care what people think and I feel free. Most of the time it’s a struggle.”
Those years leading up to adulthood can feel like sailing on choppy seas. It’s good to know that we are not alone. Another good thing is there is a name to it. It’s called emerging adulthood and the experience is common to many. Read more about this in Problems with Adulting.
