We are loving BTS for standing strong against Asian hate. But here where we are, have we been victims of hate from people who are right next to us? People suffering from mental disorder are often ‘hated’ more and fail to be accepted in our society.
Being discriminated and ostracized is a painful experience and its something that should not happen, yet it does. People discriminate for many reasons, sometimes out of hate because they feel that they are better or are pushing blame for their misery. Sometimes it’s out of ignorance because they either fear people who are different or are mis-informed about them. Our views of the world and other people are based on schemas. These are filters which are based on our experiences and knowledge of things and we need them to simplify information so that we can make decisions quickly. Schema’s can be changed but it may take a more effort for some people than others.
If you are experiencing hate that resorts to physical abuse, please avoid such people, stay safe and report it to authority. If it’s emotional and psychological especially on social media, then here are some things you can do to counter cyberbullying.
We all experience rejection to some extend in life but we do not need to allow that to define us and robe us of our dignity and self-love.
